Founder and CEO
Rhett Bennett serves as Founder and CEO. Rhett began his career in oil and gas in December 2004, starting as the Acquisitions Manager of Cascade Energy LP in Dallas, Texas. In early 2007, he founded Black Mountain Royalty LP and Black Mountain Exploration LP. In 2011, Mr. Bennett founded Black Mountain Land Company LLC and Black Mountain SWD LP, to create value as an early mover in the real estate and service sectors of the oil and gas industry in emerging resource plays.
Rhett Bennett earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Georgia in 2003, and completed the Energy Executive Management Program at the University of Oklahoma Michael F. Price College of Business in 2012.
Mr. Bennett is a member of many industry organizations, including the Independent Petroleum Association of America, the Texas Alliance of Energy Producers, the Texas Independent Producers & Royalty Owners Association, the National Association of Royalty Owners, the Fort Worth Petroleum Club, the American Association of Professional Landmen, and Young Professionals in Energy. Mr. Bennett is also active in local and national philanthropic and non-profit organizations, including Meals on Wheels, Shriners Hospitals for Children, and Boy Scouts of America.
Luke Mildren serves as VP – Land. Luke began his career as an independent landman leasing urban and commercial tracts for multi-well development programs in the Barnett Shale. He later moved on to JIMAR Resources where he worked A&D due diligence totaling over $3.1 billion of acquisitions; spanning 17 states and over 9,000 wells.
Luke joined Black Mountain Exploration in June of 2013. At Black Mountain Exploration, Luke leased over 16,000 net acres in the SCOOP and Permian Basin and successfully oversaw the drilling of Black Mountain’s first oil & gas well. Luke graduated with a Bachelors degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Kyle Biery serves as VP – Business Development. Kyle began his career at EXCO Resources, Inc. as a landman and was involved in $1.2 billion of divestitures and $2.0 billion of acquisitions. Kyle left Exco to pursue leasing opportunities independently through STAG Exploration, LLC which he founded in 2012, and together with Rhett Bennett at Black Mountain Oil and Gas’s predecessor entity, Black Mountain Exploration. Through STAG Exploration, LLC, Kyle assembled and successfully transacted on over 5,000 net acres in the Permian. At Black Mountain Exploration, Kyle acquired over 43,000 net acres in the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale and successfully divested 32,000 net acres in the Midland Basin. Kyle graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Chief Accounting Officer
Jacob serves as Chief Accounting Officer. Prior to joining Black Mountain, Jacob worked for TPG Capital, LP (2011-2014) and KPMG, LLP (2008-2011) in Fort Worth, TX. At TPG, Jacob worked in Fund Operations and assisted in deal closings and exits, distributions, and capital calls for TPG’s $18.9 billion flagship private equity fund, as well as other legacy private equity, growth and distressed debt funds. Jacob was a Senior Associate in the audit function for KPMG when he left the firm to join TPG.
Jacob Smith earned his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from Abilene Christian University in 2007 and a Master of Accountancy from ACU in 2008. Jacob passed the CPA exam in November 2008 and became registered as a CPA in March 2009.
Chief Operating Officer
Mike McCracken serves as Chief Operating Officer. Mike began his career at ExxonMobil in 2004 as a Reservoir Engineer where he worked on a variety of assets and research projects ranging from offshore oil fields to Piceance tight gas and shale gas research. He joined Pioneer Natural Resources in 2011 as a Staff Reservoir Engineer and took on the role of Development Plan Coordinator for their Eagleford assets. In 2012, Mike took a position with Enduro Resource Partners where he worked conventional oil fields and served in several technical roles eventually becoming VP – Development. He joined Black Mountain Oil & Gas in 2015. Mike graduated from the Purdue University with a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering.
Chief Financial Officer
Houston serves as Chief Financial Officer of Black Mountain Oil and Gas. Houston previously served as Vice President - Strategy for BOE Midstream, a crude logistics business with assets in the Bakken Shale. Houston began his career in Credit Suisse’s Global Energy Group as an Investment Banking Analyst. He left Credit Suisse to become the first Analyst of Tudor, Pickering, Holt & Co.’s Investment Banking group where he worked for over seven years, most recently as a Vice President covering midstream oil and gas companies.
During Houston’s eight year oil and gas investment banking career, he advised on 28 announced M&A transactions with aggregate value of over $20 billion. Houston is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin where he received a degree in Finance and Accounting.
Jarvis "Jay" Moore, P.G.
Jarvis Moore serves as VP-Geosciences for Black Mountain Oil and Gas. Mr. Moore has over 20 years of diversified Geological experience in the upstream Oil and Gas industry including positions with companies such as XTO Energy, Clearfork Resources, and Encore Acquisitions Company. He is a licensed Professional Geoscientist in the state of Texas and a SIPES Certified Earth Scientist. He holds a B.S. In Geology from Georgia Southern University and a M.S. in Geology from Texas Christian University. In addition to being a past-president and current member of the Fort Worth Geological Society, he is an active member of both the American Association of Petroleum Geologists (AAPG) and the Society of Independent Professional Earth Scientists (SIPES).
VP-Acquisitions & Divestitures
Momin Syed serves as VP – Acquisitions & Divestitures. Momin began his career at Seagull Energy with the Offshore Reservoir Engineering group and then with Ocean Energy in an Asset Management Team. In 2000, He joined Noble Energy as a Reservoir Engineer and spent the next few years in Gulf Coast and Rockies Business Units. In 2004, he moved to Strategic Planning & Environment Analysis Group as a Planning Consultant and spent the next 4 years working on the long range plan for the company.
In this capacity, he was involved in $3.4 billionacquisition of Patina Oil & Gas along with several strategic acquisitions. Momin left Noble in 2009 to join Yuma Energy as an Acquisitions Manager and was quickly promoted to VP – Planning & Evaluations where he was responsible for Reservoir Engineering, Acquisitions Analysis and Long Range Planning for the company.
After successfully guiding Yuma Energy through a reserve merger with a public company, Momin joined Black Mountain Oil& Gas in 2015. Momin graduated from the Texas A&M University with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering, from University of Houston with a Master of Science in Finance, and from Rice University with a Master of Business Administration.
